Here is a word with vast semantic range. Tantra speaks of the loom – a device used to weave cloth, by holding the warp threads under tension so that the woof threads can be interwoven. This was an amazing, mind-blowing technology that changed everything. So let’s look at the meaning of warp and weaving, in English. Weaving was one of the first great technologies of human kind. It was the internet, the web, the cell phone of ancient days. The indispensable technology.

Weaving (Wiki)
Weaving is done by intersecting the longitudinal threads, the warp, i.e. "that which is thrown across", with the transverse threads, the weft, i.e. "that which is woven".
